    The New York Times

    posted Monday, 6 March 2006

I’ve been approached by the editor of the members area of the New York Times website, or the Times-Select. I will be writing for them as a temporary “columnist” over the course of the next month. There are three other milbloggers involved in this new section called “Frontlines.” Click here for more details.

The content published for the New York Times must be completely unique and can’t appear on this blog. But you can expect to see just as many posts here as usual. I will get up a little earlier and stay up a little later so that I can have content for the New York Times and this blog as well. There is never a shortage of material.

People have their own opinions about the MSM, and I have sometimes taken issue with their coverage of this war, but I am very excited at this opportunity. I really think the New York Times wants to give readers a realistic look at what life is like for Soldiers deployed in Iraq. This is yet another step in the evolution of military blogs as a viable means of providing Americans with the soldier’s true perspective.

Thank you all very much for your comments, every one of which I read with interest, and for your support not only my service in the sandbox, but of my writing as well. Your feedback has come to mean a lot to me. I plan to continue bringing you first hand accounts of my experiences here (which are the vicarious experiences of many) in the Al Anbar Province, and hopefully provide you with some quality reading.

And if you're interested in reading my posts on "Frontlines," you can go here for a 14-day free trial.

    God Bless,

    Lieutenant K

Dear Lieutenant K, You are right, it is the soldier's story, told from the front lines that will give us a realistic view of the challenges and progress in Iraq. We hear of the incredible bonds Marines and soldier develop for one another, but it is the courage that you display everyday that is the overriding characteristic of our Armed Forces. God bless you and your soldiers and keep you safe.
